Thatta’s Soorjani Bund exposed to erosion


THATTA: The massively surging currents of floodwater in Indus River have started erosion on embankments in various Sindh areas; the repair work on such sites is in progress, Geo News reported Tuesday.

Meantime, Jakobabad is witnessing acute shortage of eatables and petroleum products as the ground links to the city are still cut off on 11 consecutive day today.

The four-km embankment of Soorjani Bund in District Thatta has started to crumble down with the local people hard striving to stem the cut process with sand sacks.

DCO Manzoor Ali Sheikh extended one more week to the holidays of the educational institutions slated to re-open on August 25 in view of flood situation.

GOC Pannu Akil Maj Gen Nasrullah Dogar inspected Akil Agani Loop Bund in Larkana and lauded the jawans for their efforts. The GOC also discussed with Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuro and MPA Ayaz Soomro over the Akil Loop Bund and overall flood situation in the area.

The sources told that they could no more find stones to stem the erosion at Akil Loop Bund, resulting in the halt to the repair work.

Also, the repair work at Main Nara Valley drain and FP Drain, is afoot.

It has been reported that relief camps in Dadu are not being provided with the clean potable water, giving spur to various epidemic diseases among children and women.

All protective embankments in Nawabshah are continuously facing huge pressure from the floodwater.

According to Irrigation Department, the crew of the concerned department have been alerted, as Mud Mangli Bund also is copping erosion at its protective embankment.
